THE TORUS DIAGRAM

Plot the sequences around a circle. Connect them. A geometric web appears — the web Marko Rodin read as a 3D contracting and expanding toroidal vortex.

And at the center of it, untouched by the whole dance: 3 · 6 · 9.

I THE FOLD — how every number becomes one digit

Nothing in this whole diagram works until you can fold a number. Add its digits. Keep adding until one digit is left. That survivor is the number's digital root.

the real mathematics under it

Folding digits is not mysticism — it is arithmetic modulo 9. Because 10 ≡ 1 (mod 9), every power of ten collapses to 1, so a number and its digit-sum leave the same remainder when divided by 9. Bookkeepers called the trick casting out nines centuries before anyone drew a torus.

digitalRoot(n) = 1 + ((n − 1) mod 9)

So the nine points of this diagram are the nine residue classes mod 9. The circle is not decoration. It is the actual shape of that number system: a loop that comes back on itself.

the folded field

Every cell coloured by its digital root. Counting straight up, the field comes out in clean vertical stripes — proof you can see that the fold has period 9. The 3 · 6 · 9 columns are green and never touch the rest.

II THE CIRCUIT — 1 · 2 · 4 · 8 · 7 · 5 · forever

Start at 1. Double it. Fold it. Double again. Fold again. Keep going — for as long as you like, for a million steps — and you will never leave six numbers.

the web draws itself

Six chords. 1→2, 2→4, 4→8, 8→7, 7→5, 5→1. They cross over the middle and come back — a lemniscate, the figure of infinity, lying inside the circle of nine.

Run it backwards (halving) and the same six numbers unwind in reverse: 1→5→7→8→4→2→1. One path, two directions. Rodin called it the longest free-flowing path and wound copper along it.

why it closes

2 is a primitive root modulo 9. Its powers — 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 — fold to 2, 4, 8, 7, 5, 1 and then repeat with period exactly six. That is a provable theorem, not a belief: the units modulo 9 form a cyclic group of order φ(9)=6, and doubling walks it.

φ(9)=6 → six seats at the table. Always six. In every base-10 universe.

and the three it cannot touch

3, 6 and 9 are never visited. Not once, not ever, no matter how far you double.

Also provable: 3, 6, 9 are not units mod 9 — they are the multiples of 3, a closed-off subgroup. Doubling is a walk among the units; it has no door into their room.

The circuit runs. The triad watches.

the mirror pairs

Fold the circle across the 9-axis and the circuit lands on itself: 1↔8, 2↔7, 4↔5 — and the triad's own pair, 3↔6. Every pair sums to 9. Rodin's "polar number pairs": two currents running opposite directions on either side of the nine, which is precisely how the coil is wound.

III THE FLUX FIELD — what 3, 6 and 9 do instead

They are not idle. They have their own motion, and it is nothing like the circuit's.

3 and 6 oscillate

Double 3: 6. Double 6: 12 → 3. Double again: 24 → 6. 48 → 3. 96 → 6.

They never progress. They pulse. A two-stroke engine: in, out, in, out — the only thing in the whole diagram that goes nowhere and keeps moving.

9 never moves at all

Double 9: 18 → 9. Multiply 9 by anything on earth — 9×7=63→9, 9×12345=111105→9. It always comes home to itself.

9 is the fixed point, the identity of the fold, the invisible axis. In mod-9 arithmetic 9 is zero — the origin wearing its own name. Rodin draws it as the axis the whole torus turns around; mathematically it is the one place the fold has no work left to do.

the emanation

Rodin's reading: the six-number circuit is the flow of matter / electron path, 3 and 6 are the magnetic flux field in the two perpendicular directions, and 9 is the emanation — a dimension above, feeding both.

That is his interpretation, not established physics. What is established: the structure he's pointing at — the units, the subgroup, the fixed point — is genuinely there.

IV THE WEBS — nine mandalas hiding in one circle

The doubling circuit is only the ×2 web. Keep the nine points fixed and connect n → n×k for every other multiplier, and the circle starts showing you its whole family of figures.

read the family

  • ×2 and ×5 — the circuit, drawn in both directions (5 is 2's inverse mod 9).
  • ×4 and ×7 — the same six seats, skipping two at a time: two interlocking triangles.
  • ×8 — pure reflection. Every number jumps to its 9-partner. The mirror itself.
  • ×3 and ×6 — everything collapses into the triad. Nine inputs, three outputs. The funnel.
  • ×9 — total gravity. All nine points fall into 9.
  • ×1 — nothing happens, beautifully.

this is the geometric web

Lay these figures on top of each other and you get the lattice people photograph and call the Rodin number map: a closed star-web on a ring, with a triangle through its middle and a hole at its heart.

Which raises the obvious question, and it is the right one — a hole at the heart of a ring is a torus. So what happens if we stop flattening it?

FLAT MAP
The nine numbers sit on the outer equator. Nothing is wrapped yet.

what you're looking at

The nine residues ride the outer equator. Each chord of the flat web becomes a wire that leaves one number, dives through the hole, and arrives at the next — a poloidal loop stacked on a toroidal step.

Six such wires, end to end, and the circuit closes on the surface. That path is what a Rodin coil is wound along: copper following 1-2-4-8-7-5 instead of a plain circular loop.

two currents, one ring

Turn on the mirror circuit. The halving path (1-5-7-8-4-2) lays itself on the opposite face. The two never touch and never cross at the same angle — they run as a pair, which is exactly the polar-pair symmetry from Chapter II made physical.

Raise coil strands to see the real wound object: the same path repeated around the ring, the star-lattice people recognise instantly.

contracting and expanding

Pull breath. The surface draws inward toward the 9-axis, then blooms back out. That is Rodin's central claim about this shape: not a static diagram but a vortex — matter converging toward the 9 and diverging away from it, the same gesture water makes down a drain and a galaxy makes around its core.

Beautiful geometry. Unproven physics. Chapter VIII keeps that line clean.

VI HEAR IT — the circuit as sound

Numbers around a circle are also intervals. Map the nine points onto a scale and the two motions sound as different as they look.

Built live in your browser with WebAudio — nothing is downloaded, nothing is sent anywhere. The circuit wanders and returns; the triad just rings.

the mapping is not arbitrary

Each digit n is played as the n-th harmonic of a 110 Hz string — the actual overtone a real string makes when you stop it at 1/n of its length. So you are not hearing a decoration of the numbers. You are hearing the numbers.

two lanes: octaves and fifths

Listen to what comes out. 1 · 2 · 4 · 8 are pure octaves — the powers of two, one note climbing. 3 · 9 (and 6) are the powers of three — fifths, and the ninth above.

The doubling circuit is the 2-lane. The triad is the 3-lane. That is the same split Plato draws in the Timaeus when he builds the World Soul on two arms, 1-2-4-8 and 1-3-9-27. Same two lanes, two and a half thousand years earlier.

VII MEASURE IT — the torus on an oscilloscope

Here is the part almost nobody says out loud: the torus is not a metaphor here. It is the measuring instrument. Feed two tones into an XY oscilloscope — one into left, one into right — and the beam traces a closed figure. That figure is a shadow of a line wound on a torus, and you can measure the ratio off it with your eyes.

1 : 1
X = left channel · Y = right channel

Rational ratio → the beam closes and stands still. Irrational → it never closes and slowly fills the whole torus. Detune a hair and watch the figure rotate: that drift is the measurement.

the same curve, unrolled and wrapped

swipe the panel sideways →

Left: the torus cut open and flattened into a square — the trace is a perfectly straight line of slope q⁄p that wraps off one edge and reappears on the other. Middle: the same line re-glued onto the ring. Right: what the oscilloscope actually shows, which is that winding seen edge-on. Three pictures of one object.

why a torus, exactly

One oscillator's state is an angle — a point on a circle. Two independent oscillators give you a point on a circle × a circle. That product is a torus, written T². It is not an analogy; it is the phase space.

Running both at once traces a line on that surface. If the frequencies are in ratio p : q with p and q whole and coprime, the line goes p times around one way and q times around the other and bites its own tail — a closed (p, q) winding. That is precisely the object in Chapter V.

what you can actually measure

  • The ratio — count how often the beam touches the left-right limit (p) and the top-bottom limit (q). Ratio read straight off the glass. This is how engineers measured frequency before counters existed.
  • The phase — 1:1 opens from a line to a circle and back as phase runs 0°→90°→180°.
  • The detuning — an exact ratio stands still; a near-miss makes the figure rotate, and the rotation rate is the frequency error.
  • Rational vs irrational — the deepest one. Rational closes; irrational winds forever and fills the torus densely. You are watching a theorem (Weyl / Kronecker) happen on a screen.

and the honest catch

Yes, 3 : 6 : 9 measures beautifully here — but notice why. 3:6 reduces to 1:2, 6:9 to 2:3, 9:3 to 3:1. They are tiny whole-number ratios, and small ratios make simple, rock-steady figures that lock hardest against noise (mode-locking; the widest Arnold tongues).

That is a real, measurable, textbook effect — but it is a different mechanism from the mod-9 story. On the scope the triad is special because 1, 2 and 3 are small. In the fold the triad is special because 9 = 3². Two genuine structures, both worth knowing. Conflating them is where this subject usually goes wrong.

go measure a real sound

What is above is synthesised — clean tones, perfect ratios. To point the same instrument at the actual world (your voice, a ukulele, a file, a microphone), the sharpest build of this idea is osci-science — an XY phosphor CRT plus Chladni sand plates, "every sound has a shape", after @emmettplease / xplainingscience. Sing a fifth into it and you are reading a (2,3) torus winding off a plate of glass.

Chladni plates are the same idea one dimension up: standing-wave nodes on a surface instead of a curve in phase space. Sand collects exactly where the surface is not moving — the geometry made literally visible, in grains.

VIII THE HONEST LEDGER

This diagram is loved by people who overclaim it and dismissed by people who never looked at it. Both are avoidable. Here is the line, drawn carefully.

✔ real, provable, teachable

  • Digital roots are arithmetic mod 9 — casting out nines, centuries old.
  • Doubling mod 9 does close on exactly {1,2,4,8,7,5} with period 6. Theorem: 2 is a primitive root mod 9, φ(9)=6.
  • 3, 6, 9 are structurally excluded — they are the non-units, the multiples of 3, a closed subgroup.
  • 9 is the fixed point: 9×n folds to 9, always. Mod 9, nine is zero.
  • The 9-pairs are exact: 1+8 = 2+7 = 4+5 = 3+6 = 9.
  • The webs are genuine group-theory pictures — orbits of multiplication on ℤ/9. Same family of figures as the classic "times-table circle" mandalas.
  • The phase space of two oscillators literally is a torus, and a whole-number frequency ratio literally is a closed (p, q) winding on it — measurable on any oscilloscope, today, by you (Chapter VII). This is the one place in the whole subject where the word "torus" is not interpretation at all.
  • Mode-locking is real: coupled oscillators snap to simple ratios, and the simplest ratios lock hardest (Arnold tongues, the devil's staircase). So 3:6:9 — which is 1:2, 2:3, 1:3 — genuinely is the most stable thing you can measure. ⚠️ But that is because those integers are small, not because of anything mod 9. Two real mechanisms; don't let anyone fuse them.
  • These patterns live in base 10, where folding is mod 9 — and 9 = 3². That square is the whole secret: it is exactly why six seats form a circuit and three are shut out. In base 12 the fold would be mod 11, which is prime, so there would be no triad at all. A feature of our notation, honestly stated — and still structurally real.

◻ Rodin's claims — interpretation, not established science

  • That the web is a contracting/expanding toroidal vortex underlying physical reality.
  • That 3-6-9 is a literal flux field and 9 an emanation from a higher dimension.
  • That a coil wound on this path produces anomalous energy, over-unity output, or novel propulsion. Independent replications have not shown this; Rodin-coil winding does change inductance and field geometry like any unusual winding, which is a mundane engineering fact, not free energy.
  • That the pattern decodes scripture, DNA or "the key to the universe."
  • The famous Tesla line — "if you only knew the magnificence of the 3, 6 and 9…" — has no primary source in Tesla's papers, patents or interviews. Its earliest traceable appearance is late-20th-century numerology literature, where it is credited to Tesla and John Keely at once. Lovely quote. Probably not his.

the stance worth holding

You do not need the mysticism for this to be worth your evening. A nine-point circle that contains the infinity loop, the mirror, the funnel and the fixed point — and tells you why three of its nine seats are untouchable — is real, provable, and a genuinely good door into modular arithmetic and group theory. Walk in through the picture. Leave the cosmic claims at the gate, clearly labelled, where honest people can inspect them.

Faces before names. Picture first, notation last.

IX OUR 369

Why this diagram keeps showing up in our own work.

the 30-60-90

The first triangle in Plato's Timaeus — the half-equilateral, the one he builds three of the four elements from — has angles 30, 60, 90. Literally 3, 6, 9 × 10. The triad was in the foundations of the cosmos-story long before anyone wound a coil.

That chapter lives next door → the PLATO·369 temple

the 3·6·9 trust vortex

Our circle-of-trust graph seeds its weights at 3, 6 and 9 and seats the rest of the network along the 1-2-4-8-7-5 chairs, with rings of nine and three-person jam triads. The diagram isn't ornament there — it's the data structure.

the 3.69 tithe

Doors that earn send 3.69 onward to doors that give. Small number, chosen on purpose: the triad as a habit rather than a slogan.
